All Saints Day

Filed under: Personal — allmycke @ 9:30 pm

On my way to my Aunt’s place today, I drove by the shore and was struck by the view with the trees and a thick fog out over the lake.

MistyIn my mind’s eye, I saw a shot that would be perfect in every which way – almost black and white, the picnic table would be the center of attention, the fog would be just so… This is what I ended up with after adjusting the exposure, but I’m not happy with it. I’ll try and make some other changes later, maybe I’ll get something closer to what I had imagined in the first place.

Visiting with my Aunt and her family was really nice. Good conversation, good food, lots of laughs – what more can you want?

In honour of All Saints Day, I also went by the graveyard to put a candle on my grandparent’s grave. Almost every grave was lit by candles or lanterns, but I couldn’t get a picture of it since I didn’t have my tripod.

Loki spent the afternoon playing with Tessie and is currently snoring away by my feet.

I Can Drive Again!

Filed under: Funny stuff, Loki — allmycke @ 3:54 pm

12 days of hoofing it everywhere was probably good for me in a lot of ways – not the least of which is keeping me humble – but it sure was nice to take the car today and drive to Boulder Ridge!

FrostLoki has loved the walk to and from work all this week (I had a friend park my car at work on Monday, so Loki has had his “home away from home” as usual) -but his delight at getting to run free was obvious. Now he’s snoring at my feet.

All Saints this weekend – I might visit my Aunt and her family if the weather holds tomorrow, because I can drive again!

How Come…

… foxes always seem to know when the ice is strong enough to hold them?

First OutThese tracks along the shore wasn’t there yesterday afternoon – but Mr or Mrs Fox had wandered along the shore some time before 9 AM this morning.

I Should Have Known

… that a full day of writing comments on student performance is not the right thing to do when you have a partial cast on your left hand.

Back to Work

Filed under: pity party — allmycke @ 6:57 pm

After a visit at the X-Ray department this morning, I went back to work. This week being mid-term holidays here, I only have to do my 20 hours in admin – but it seems I could use at least another 5 hours just to manipulate doors, ring binders and desk drawers. Man how I hate being this helpless when it comes to stupid things like that!

Laid upI take a bath, wash my hair, get dressed, take Loki for a walk and take pictures – but a ring binder almost did me in today!

Oh – the X-Rays looked good and I also got a fresh bandage. Always something!

Why is it…

…that the snow seems to take so many by total surprise every year?

CykelparkThese ones will probably survive the winter, but there’s an expensive mountain bike parked at a corner that will surely be demolished by the snowplow before long.

What Is It…

… that makes a picnic table look so forlorn when covered with snow?

Waxwing

Filed under: Nature — allmycke @ 1:13 pm

Loki demanded a walk around 10 AM today and that was exactly the time a flock of waxwings were feasting on the frozen berries of mountain ash around the parking lot.

Waxwing 1Lokis walk was cut short so I could grab the camera and get a few pictures of them. Less than 2 hours later, they were all gone.

Picture Puzzle

I’m bored stiff!

That’s why I cooked up the idea of posting a picture of a typically Swedish item for you to guess on.

WhatThese things can be seen outside most apartment blocks, although I think they are not being used as much today as what was the case maybe 20-25 years ago and even earlier. I took the picture because I liked the wave pattern in the snow – but what is it?

Use your imagination and give it a whirl – there’s a small prize in it for anyone who can guess what this contraption is used for.

Obedience Training

Filed under: Loki — allmycke @ 7:47 pm

I have to admit something. I haven’t been very diligent in training Loki…. Reason being that he really hasn’t required all that much of it.

Iron ringBeing one-handed has, however, made it clear to me how important it is to have control over your dog. Today I taught him how to walk without a leash on my left-hand side and to stay and sit whenever a car was approaching from either direction. He doesn’t score 100% yet, but he sure learns fast. When we got home and he wanted to go out on the veranda, he sat down so I could put his leash on – without me telling him to do so!

Not bad, when something good comes out of a stupid accident!
