I’ve spent 550 some kilometers with my charge -N- in the car today. We left at about 7.30 AM and I dropped him off at 5.30 PM. We had a short meeting at the Migration Board in the AM and another stop att the Tax Office in the PM. He received his permanent visa (we knew about it before Christmas, this was the official handing-over of the papers and an ID-card) then on to get him registered. We also had a chance to stop and visit Dad and -B- for about an hour which my Dad really appreciated. He has become sort of a spare Grandpa for all of the teens I’ve been working with over the last few years.
Anyhow – what about the teenagers & pretzels? Well, I couldn’t take pictures of -N- while driving – just trust me when I say he was sleeping most of the 550+ km, scrunched up in the seat in a totally impossible pose. How do teenagers do it – sleeping anywhere, anyhow and under any circumstances?
Here’s one just for your enjoyment.
It also happens to be a picture may niece pointed out to me some years ago – AND she’s coming here for a visit in about a month’s time! Yipee!
Don’t tell, but I have half a plan to take my niece up to the same country this summer to find that exact rock… to see how much larger that heart of lichen has grown – I’m quite sure we can find the spot…

So much good news! Teens who sleep in the car (that’s usually a good thing for me, anyway), surrogate grandparents, and beloved relatives who visit! Oh, and finding hearts in unexpected places…
