This picture must be from the summer of 1953.
I’m sittng in the lap of my oldest cousin outside Grandma and Grandpa’s house a warm summer day. The bonnet I’m wearing was very popular for girls all through the 50′s – and I needed it since I had no hair to speak of…
Snapping pictures was not done every day – it had to be a special occasion before someone brought out a camera. This paricular time it was because my cousin came for a visit. Yes, I did look like a happy sort, but apparently I was one stubborn little lady… Stories about my tantrums when things didn’t go my way abound…
Merinz – The bonnet was bought in a store, everything else was handmade.

I notice the hand knitted cardigan. There would not have been any store bought option anyway in those days.
